Cloak and Flesh

As twilight fades
Into burgundy
A figure
With sureness & frailty
Treads lightly
On stepping stones
Between the now &
Then
Two steps forward
One back, then

Jumping the crack
As the moon
Continues to cycle
Today’s history
Is all too brief
Please,
Let it
Settle slowly

Can grace be held
From dawn to dusk
Among the many
Living their moments
Just as I
Live mine
Passing one another
In silence
As if, the other
Isn’t there

Is this … not so …

From the very far side
It’s all the same
The bullfighter raises his cape
The bull lowers his head
The cloak covers their bodies
Flesh covers their bones

Destined to mate
